Blood: The Last Vampire
Rating:
Who's in it: Allison Miller, Gianna Jun
What's it about: A young woman warrior - half-human, half-vampire - must bring down the king of all demons.
Stake it out: The warrior, Saya (Jun), is a master with a samurai sword, which she uses to slash her way through an American school on a military base in Japan, searching for demons among the student body. She's also busy protecting the general's daughter (Miller, "Kings") - but mostly she's slicing off heads and limbs in long, drawn-out battles against monsters who look like refugees from the "Thriller" video. The fight-scene swordplay is skillfully choreographed - but the spurts and gushes of computer-generated blood get old in a hurry. And after an opening battle in which she takes down dozens of demons, where is there left to go? Answer: still more fight scenes.
Long story short: This action film is one long, repetitive slashfest.
