Brit vs. Mom: Angry Splapdown

The ongoing heated verbal battle between Britney Spears and her estranged mom, Lynne Spears, recently flared into an ugly physical showdown! Star can exclusively reveal that in mid-June the duo engaged in a shocking slapfest that left Lynne shaken and Britney more determined than ever to cut her mother out of her life for good, sources say. And that's the real reason that almost two weeks later, on June 28, the still-fuming Britney marched onto the Valencia, Calif., set of little sis Jamie Lynn's Nickelodeon show, Zoey 101. There, according to sources, Brit handed her mom a sharply worded legal letter, warning Lynne to stay away from the singer's two sons — or else face legal consequences!

The incident began during the weekend of June 15, says an insider, when Lynne, 52, made an unscheduled visit to the $7.5 million, Tuscan-style Beverly Hills mansion where Brit lives with little Sean Preston, 22 months, and Jayden James, 10 months. "Lynne barged into the house and insisted on taking the kids out to spend some private time with them. She didn't ask or suggest, she demanded!" says the insider. "Then, she began denigrating Britney's mothering skills and losing her temper at the same time!"

Britney told Lynne that there was no way she would allow her kids to go with their grandmother. "Lynne lost control," says the insider. "Britney tried to escort her out of the house so the kids wouldn't see her, but when they got to the doorway, Lynne turned to Britney and slapped her hard across her face!"
