David Letterman Continues to Stay Up Late
With Jay Leno out of the picture, David Letterman has inked a detail to remain on late night television. The Late Show host has agreed to three more years of Top 10 Lists, Stupid Pet Tricks and trips to the Hello Deli. The funnyman signed with CBS for three more years of the show, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
This new deal is key as NBC has recently restructured its late-night lineup, opening things up for a new late night king. The top-rated Jay Leno, who was Dave's longtime competitor in the 11:35pm slot — was ousted as Tonight Show host and replaced by Conan O'Brien. The network kept Jay but move him to primetime — his new show, The Jay Leno Show, will air at 10 pm beginning Sept. 14.
Conan, who debuted as Tonight Show host on June 1, opened to good ratings last week — beating Letterman — but the margin has since narrowed and the competition between Conan and Dave seems to be on!
Dave has been a CBS fixture since 1993 — when he was overlooked by NBC for The Tonight Show gig, so he jumped networks.
