Eleventh Hour

Thursday, Oct. 9, 10PM, CBS

Hunky Rufus Sewell joins the growing list of British actors playing American cops - or cop-helpers. He's a mix of "Monk" and "House," playing an FBI scientist who specializes in tracking down bad guys who use science for evil, not good. The first episode has him trying to figure out why 11-year-olds in a small Georgia town are dropping dead from heart attacks. Given that it comes from producer Jerry Bruckheimer ("CSI"), it's not very flashy. Sewell has a quirky charm but the character doesn't bring much to the table in the first episode, other than his good looks and, of course, his crime-solving ability. His sidekick, played by Marley Shelton, spends her time rolling her eyes when he does something weird. It needs to find a groove to survive.
