Ellen Reacts To Gay Marriage Ban

November 6, 2008

Tuesday's passage of a gay marriage ban in California has at least one of Hollywood's A-list celebrities disappointed. Ellen DeGeneres released a statement through her show's Web site saying she was "saddened beyond belief" that the ban, officially known as Proposition 8, passed with 52 percent of the vote.

"Here we just had a giant step toward equality [with the election of Barack Obama] and then on the very next day, we took a giant step away," says Ellen, who married partner Portia de Rossi in August. Their marriage is now in legal jeopardy as a result of the ban.

The talk show host vowed to fight back. "I believe one day a 'ban on gay marriage' will sound totally ridiculous. In the meantime, I will continue to speak out for equality for all of us."

Maggie, you must understand that CA. only voted yes because of the lies that were told about prop 8, so no we won't just get over it! What if you woke up tomorrow & your state had voted that all people named "Maggie" were low lifes? Or not worthy.

I'm not gay,but I believe people have the right to marry who ever.Even if it's same sex, mixed races.People just need to grow up!What matters is the respect & love the you receive. My son is gay & I love him no matter what & whoever he ends up with,as long as they treat him with respect

People who"choose"to live a alternative life-style is their choice!Don't even say your civil rights are being violated and your being treated as badly as black people were in the 1800's to mid 60's blacks were being lynched just for being black America doesn't know your lifestyle unless you tell someone or display it.What does your version of the bible say about marriage?

I don't see what difference it makes what sex you are. Love is love, plain and simple. A woman can love a woman, or a man can love a man. Who has the right to dictate how someone feels about another person? I think that anyone that has someone to love is extremely lucky, it shouldn't matter what sex they are.
