FBI Documents Reveal More About Danielle Staub's Arrest
The skeletons in The Real Housewives of New Jersey vixen Danielle Staub’s closet just keep piling up!
In a recent Star exclusive interview, her ex-husband, Kevin Maher, revealed that Danielle — then known by her real name of Beverly Merrill — was a paid escort and that she was arrested in Miami by the FBI in 1986 for her part in a violent kidnapping plot, masterminded by her then-boyfriend, a cocaine dealer with ties to dangerous Colombian drug cartels.
When she was arrested at the boyfriend’s house, the authorities found guns, $16,000 cash, explosive devices and five kilos of cocaine! Beverly pled guilty to extortion, said Kevin, and was put on probation for five years.
Danielle, 46, called Kevin’s story “completely absurd,” and claimed she had merely been in the wrong place at the wrong time. “Was I aware of everything that was going on around me? No, not everything,” she said. “Was I aware of the gravity of all of it? Absolutely not!”
But Danielle may have to eat those words! The website The Smoking Gun has obtained copies of FBI court documents from that bust. It’s clear from the documents she was more deeply involved than even her ex-husband knew — or that she cares to admit!
The documents state that Beverly Merrill was working as an escort — going by the name of “Angela” — when she became involved with a client, local cocaine kingpin Daniel Aguilar. In June 1986, Daniel had Beverly take a kilo of cocaine, worth $24,000, to the nearby apartment of customer Carmen Centolella, who was supposed to sell the drugs to four men. When Beverly arrived, the documents state, she was accosted by the men who held her at gunpoint before fleeing with the cocaine.
When Aguilar — who later told investigators that Beverly used cocaine — learned what had happened, he orchestrated Carmen Centolella’s kidnapping. Centolella was beaten while he was held at Aguilar’s house for three days, during which phone calls were placed to his father demanding $25,000 ransom. According to the documents, Beverly Merrill placed the first call to the father, during which she “threatened injury or death” to his son.
The FBI made their arrests and two months later — facing a possible sentence of 20 years in prison — Beverly agreed to plead guilty to a single felony count of extortion and received to five years probation, in exchange for testifying against Aguilar. According to the documents, he was later sentenced to 15 years behind bars.
