Highlights from the 2009 Golden Globes

January 12, 2009

Last year's show was canceled due to the writers' strike, but this year's certainly made up for it!

The 2009 Golden Globes was a star-studded event with celebrities from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Here are some highlights of the event, which aired Sunday on NBC...

  • David Duchovny was on the red carpet for the first time since going to rehab for sex addiction. "I'm thankful for so much," he said on E!'s red carpet show. "I'm just most thankful for my life and my family. My wife and my kids -- the simple things in life. My gratitude opens my heart every day. I feel blessed."
  • Drew Barrymore showed off a new tongue piercing and told a reporter it's "for a film."
  • Jennifer Lopez, who came with Marc Anthony (neither wore a wedding ring), opened the show and to try to quiet the audience she said: "Hello? Mama talkin', mama talkin'. Okay."
  • Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan accepted Heath Ledger's supporting actor award. "All of us who worked with Heath accept this with an awful mixture of sadness and incredible pride... For any of us lucky enough to work with him or to have enjoyed his performance, he will be eternally missed, but he will never be forgotten."
  • Kate Winslet won not one but two awards -- best actress in a drama for Revolutionary Road and best supporting actress for The Reader. When she gave her first acceptance speech, she cracked: "You have to forgive me because I have a habit of not winning things."
  • The folks at home weren't the only one surprised that In Bruges star Colin Farrell beat Javier Bardem in best actor in a musical or comedy category. "They must have done the counting in Florida," the Irishman joked in his acceptance speech.

  • Bruce Springsteen, whose song "The Wrestler" won best original song, said: "This is the only time I'm gonna be in competition with Clint Eastwood. It feels pretty good." Clint was also up for "Gran Torino," which he cowrote and sang.

  • The 30 Rock love fest continued with Tina Fey nabbing best actress in a comedy, Alec Baldwin taking best supporting and the show winning comedy series. Tracey Morgan accepted the award and announced: "Tina Fey and I had bet: If Barack Obama won the presidency, I would speak for the show from now on. I'm the face of post-racial America!" He then jokingly added: "Deal with it, Cate Blanchett!"

What did you think of the show? Did Heath's win bring a tear to your eye? Bummed you didn't get to hear a Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie acceptance speech? Talk back below.

What was JLo thinking in that dress? Tracey Morgan sounded like a low life retard. Its okay that he is black but does he have to talk so unrefined-geez he's on television. Glad to not see the most overrated actors-Brad and Angie win.

I'm so happy for all of the award winners. Especially Heath Ledger. Congrats all you Golden Globe winners!

I don't normally watch award shows. I wish I had, especially to see Kate Winslett forget Angelina's name. That would have been priceless. It sucks to be Angelina, not every thinks she is special.

It seems to me that I heard that Jennifer's movie Marley and Me beat out Brads movie by making the most money on opening..Who cares about awards? Give me the money!!You go Jenn...

how in the hell did all this turn into a "Brangelina" & Jen A bitchfest? get a life people! im glad something could be won in Heath's honor, i think that Aron Eckhart is an underappreciated actor (he rocks in everything he has been in!) and omg, Clint Eastwood just rules!

doesn't anyone see how anerexic Angelina is? Look at her arms...obvious. She looks horrible!! Why does everyone go goo-ga over her? So many other healthy pretty actresses

I am really sicks and tired of all those dummies out there who are making bad remarks on Brad & Angie. These are the people who you should look up to, and not insulting them. Get over it! Let them live their life with their beautiful children. I hope Brad and Angie have a long loving relationship. They really deserve each other.
