Hilary Duff's Daddy Sent to Jail

August 28, 2008

What is it with stars' parents behaving badly?

A divorce hearing between Hilary Duff's parents ended with her father being led away in handcuffs to serve 10 days in jail for contempt of court.

Bob and Susan Duff were in a Texas court Wednesday in the latest chapter of their 2 1/2-year-old divorce case. The latest brouhaha is about... money.

Susan took the stand to ask for $25,000 to pay for a present and party for Hilary's 21st birthday, which is Sept. 28. Susan said it's the same amount she and her estranged husband, who owns a chain of convenience stores, spent on a ring and a party for Hilary's sister, actress Haylie Duff, when she turned 21 a few years ago. Susan went on to say that the $10,000 her husband pays her in interim support each month is "not even enough to pay my own bills" and she has to rely on Hilary for financial help.

After Bob testified on his own behalf, the judge ordered him to pay Susan $12,500 for Hilary's birthday. But he took another hit when he was ordered to spend 10 days in jail for contempt of court. He's accused of violating an injunction against selling assets without court approval and must pay $367,537 he earned from selling stocks last month into a court repository.

When Susan saw her ex being cuffed and led away, the Houston Chronicle says she gasped and murmured, "This isn't what I wanted."

Neither Hilary nor her sister were in court for the proceedings. As Star previously reported, when the Duff girls moved to Los Angeles with their mother more than a decade ago, and Hil hit it big starring in Disney's Lizzie McGuire, their father remained in Texas and took up with a flight attendant he met while traveling between Houston and L.A. Soon after, Bob bought his lover a condo and paid for her son's education. A year later, they went public with their relationship and he had divorce papers drawn up.

Hilary has publicly discussed the breakup of her parents marriage, saying: "I was embarrassed that my family wasn't perfect and that some woman had broken it up." She also wrote two songs about her father's unfaithfulness, "Gypsy Woman" and "The Stranger."

So what if hillary is old enough to pay for her own parties. Parents like to do things nice for their kids.
-- Felicia

Um Mandy- it has nothing to do with Hillary. Her parents threw a 21st party for her sister so her mom wanted to do the same for her. Would you seriously pay for your own big 21st bash? I just didnt think you would. It has nothing to do with her- it has to do with her mother and father and you aparently didnt get that.
-- Jamie

Seriousley Hillay is old enough to pay for her own party. She makes so much money! Why does she need to take it from her dad? Some people are just money hungry.

if any of u got divorsed u know how it is...no matter what age the kids are..half is half, he has what he has because of her too,he should support her lifestyle as she would of had married, next time he should think twice before cheating and walking out, should not be that easy ..a man is not a father or a man when he cheats on the WHOLE family(if things were not right,,,be a man an leave her before u cheat)..go ahead Susan, take what's yours..don't think of him because he wasn't thinking of the family when he was with the other woman..he made his bed now he can sleep in it!!!
