Imagine That

By Marshall Fine

Rating:

Who's in it: Eddie Murphy

What it's about: An investment broker (Murphy) finds that his young daughter's imaginary friends are giving him great tips about where to invest. Or are they?

Magical: Murphy plays a work-obsessed divorced guy who resents taking time to be a dad. But when his daughter's make-believe pals start picking winners for him, he's forced to play pretend with her to keep the pipeline open. This movie is about the importance of the parent-child bond. But while it's aimed at little kids, it's never really silly enough for them. And Murphy isn't crazy enough to keep their parents interested. It's one of his better performances, but there's not enough story for the amount of movie.

Long story short: Maybe this should have been made-for-TV.
