Jennifer Garner Seeks Protection Against Alleged Stalker

November 19, 2008

Jennifer Garner has filed a temporary restraining order against a man she claims has been stalking and harassing her since 2002.

In papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Nov. 7, the mom-to-be asks for protection against Steven R. Burky, 36, who she alleges has "engaged in obsessive and harassing behavior, posting about me on the Internet, sending me multiple packages and letters containing delusional and paranoid thoughts and following me around the country, through multiple states, to make contact with me."

Jennifer's sworn affidavit states that Burky has shown up at her private residence — where she lives with hubby Ben Affleck and their 2-year-old, Violet — and said that "God sent him a vision" that the actress would be persecuted in a way that could result in her death.

The temporary order stipulates that Burky can't contact Jen by any means and must stay 100 yards away from her, Ben, Violet and several of their employees. It also specifically requests that he must stay away from Violet's school.

"I now fear not only for my personal safety, but also for the safety and well-being of those that I love and care about most, including my husband and daughter," Jen says in the papers. "Also, I am currently pregnant and fear for the safety of my second child once born."

This is one of several recent stories about extreme fans. Earlier this month, Sandra Bullock's stalker was sentenced to probation, and an "extreme fan" of Paula Abdul died of a drug overdose while parked outside the American Idol judge's home.

A hearing will be held tomorrow to make the order permanent.

Round up these idiots and put them where they can't bother anybody anymore. Jen and the other celebrities deserve peace and to know they and their families will be safe. Why isn't more being done to protect these people from being harresed by the celebrity seekers. Pass a law that they can't get any closer then a city block from them and jail all who comes closer. They can expect some trouble from the picture taking nuts, but not harm. If they ask to b left alone, then go away.

Hang that weirdo out to dry, he is sick and needs help, if a hospital or doctor can't help then maybe Smith and Wesson can. It's sad that someone would have to resort to killing someone but it's either them you or your family not a hard choice when your being stalked or in fear. I'm glad I don't live in California not that it is a bad place but in Arizona you can carry a gun in pubic and out in the open as long as it is in a holster. Come to Arizona where the right to carry a gun is still the norm.
