Broken Engagement for Jennifer Love Hewitt

The Ghost Whisperer star and her Scottish fiancé who costarred in 2001's HBO miniseries Band of Brothers — have ended their engagement, says a report.

The couple, who became engaged in Nov. 2007 after dating for two years, are said to have split over the New Year's holiday.

Although Ross said in an October interview that he's "so ecstatic" about Love and "she still takes my breath away," cracks in the relationship began showing in September. Star reported that the couple were involved in a heated altercation outside their Toluca Lake, Calif. home. Love was visibly upset as she followed Ross — who was toting a suitcase — to his car.

"I could hear them arguing behind the gate for a good 10 minutes before they came out into the front yard," an eyewitness told Star at the time. "Then he came storming out of the gate with his luggage and hurried off to his car as Jennifer followed, yelling." Then he drove off without giving her a glance, said the source, and she "watched his car disappear down the street and then yelled, 'S--t!' before going back inside and slamming the gate behind her."

Following their blowout, the couple seemed to smooth things out — temporarily — and were seen at several red-carpet events together during the fall. And on Thanksgiving they held hands while volunteering at the Los Angeles Mission.

In fact, just last week — on Dec. 27 — they were photographed holding hands while walking their dog in their neighborhood.

The couple was supposed to tie the knot in 2009.
