Joely Fisher: Adopt in America!
Over a month after adopting an African-American baby from the Los Angeles area, Joely Fisher talks to Star about the importance of adopting domestically. Star told you first that the 'Til Death star and her husband Chris Duddy adopted a baby girl, Olivia Luna Fisher-Duddy, from South Central Los Angeles. Now, Joely reveals what went into her decision. "I always thought that I would adopt," the actress told Star at the TotSpot.com launch part at the Treehouse Social Club. "I've had many friends go into China, Africa or wherever [to adopt]. I went to Africa — not in search of a baby, as Ambassador for Save the Children — and they don't really want you to take their children. They want to sustain. They want to have a way to keep their countries prospering and have happy, healthy children. It's tough over there." So when Joely and Chris decided to add to their family, they didn't have to look further than their home state. "There are 70,000 children in foster care in the state of California," she says. "That's 7-0. It's unbelievable! There are many children in our own city that need parents." Joely adds that her other two daughters with Chris — Skylar, 7, and True, 2 — are thrilled with the new addition. "They're great big sisters — they're totally in love. And they have two big, big brothers too," says the proud mom, referring to Chris' adult sons, Cameron, 24, and Colin, 22. "So it's a big, crazy family."

Meagan Davis, are you out of your mind? Not every person who gives a child up for adoption in the US does it because they are addicted to a drug! I might remind you and anyone else who thinks like you do that the 2nd "adopt a sidekick" of Angelina's was ill and she caught whatever the child had. She was delayed coming into the country until she was recovered and she has looked ill ever since.
THINK! It's obviously a new concept! -- America all the way
RIGHT ON!!!!! IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT I HEARD SOME SENSE FROM AN ACTRESS!!! I HAD GIVEN UP HOPE THAT THERE WERE ANY SANE BRAINS LEFT THAT THE CALIFORNIA SMOG HADN'T GOTTEN TO! YOU JOELY FISHER ARE A TRUE AMERICAN AND ONE TO LOOK UP TO!!! THANKS FOR RESTORING MY FAITH IN HOLLYWOOD!

I like Joely. And, there are children who need homes, and if she became an adoptive parent, I assume it was to a child in need and the adoption was done through the proper channels. It is just sad that the adoptive parents have to tell the press. As for her children being 'thrilled'I have two grandchildren. age 7 and 3 and they are thrilled with whatever is going on at the moment (just because kids that age are)..so not a good reference that they are on board....

It is appalling that there are so many children in foster care. Good for her for adopting locally. The world needs a birth control program-people spay and neuter their pets and yet people produce unwanted children by the thousands. The poor because they have limited access to birth control and the rich so they can have acessories. A baby is the in thing right now.

if you live in america, everything you do should be "American"...buying a car, adoption. you don't see 3rd world countries wanting U.S. kids to adopt

I do agree, it is about time for these celebs to start adopting from the USA. Help your own first instead of spending rediculous amounts of cash in other countries for their kids!

Why would they want to help an American Child, when they can adopt something really Special and Different to show off at their dinner parties?
-- Remmie
It is about time somebody starts adopting from the USA
