Fourth Judge Joins American Idol

August 25, 2008

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are going to have to make some room at their table!

With ratings down during season seven and Nigel Lythgoe out as executive producer, the folks at American Idol are shaking things up this season starting by adding a permanent fourth judge. Singer/songwriter Kara DioGuardi, who has worked with Christina Aguilera, new mom Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake, is the new hire.

"We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges' table," creator/executive producer Simon Fuller said in a press release. "She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America's most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show."

Added executive producer Cécile Frot-Coutaz, "We had originally intended for American Idol to have four judges. We've seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers."

As for Kara, she's pretty thrilled to be joining the hit series. "When they told me I was [hired] I just didn't believe it," she said earlier today. "I still don't believe it. I don't even know what I'm doing here right now. I'm just trying to enjoy it and trying to take it one day as it comes."

The eighth season of Idol returns to the air in January on Fox.

Do you think a fourth judge will be good for the show? Do you think Paula is being pushed out? Are you even into Idol anymore? Talk back below.

I think it is a good idea. more fair.
2 guys.
2 girls.
she seems funny and cool.
she can actually judge well since she has experience. :)
GO Kara!
The show will be better with four judges. Trust me!

um...it sucked the first three seasons, then i watched the fourth, but now its just getting rediculous. idol will become another washed up show that no one watches anymore, just like survivor and big brother. they just suck anymore. people are getting sick of the same thing over and over!

Whoever is pretending to be Taylor DuPriest from Kid Nation needs to get a life. She doesn't post on boards. Sorry!!

I still love idol, but with Paula saying That was amazing and I love you to every singer that comes aroud, Randy saying dog every other word, and almost no good critiques from Simon, Idol could use a little spark. Go Kara! :)

4 judges will be fine. Simon is the only one that really gives an honest opinion though. Idol just hasn't been as good the last couple of years. The year with Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice was the best! Not just because of Carrie and Bo...but AI had a theme each week (NOT just one person to pick songs from...but Country, etc.) Where you could pick from a wide variety. Not everyone can sing "say...Elvis...or Aretha...or etc".

I have been thinkin about this and I dont like it. Whoevers idea this was, was stupid. Shes pretty but, Paula is more prettier and better and should be the only female Judge on there. I love Paula <3
Anyways..I dont like the idea and alot of other people dont either and if no one like our thoughts about it that are the opposite well, then there just ganna haft to deal with it.
