Kate Winslet on Always Being the Fat Kid, Reuniting with Leo
Kate Winslet has five Oscar nominations on her résumé and starred in the biggest blockbuster in film history, but the star of the upcoming Revolutionary Road — opposite her Titanic costar Leonardo DiCaprio — says she still sees herself as a fat girl.
"This is going to sound really weird, but I never had a desire to be famous," she tells Vanity Fair in a new interview. "I was fat. I didn't know any fat famous actresses. I just did not see myself in that world at all, and I'm being very sincere. You know, once a fat kid, always a fat kid. Because you always think that you just look a little bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else. And I still sort of have that. I often look at women who wear great jeans and high heels and nice little T-shirts wandering around [New York City] and I think, I should make more of an effort. I should look like that. But then I think, They can't be happy in those heels."
The 5'6 actress told the mag that as a teen she weighed nearly 200lbs. These days, the mom of two has shed the extra weigh — though she says she'll never be a fitness fanatic. "Everyone can commit to 20 minutes," she says of working out, "especially if there's a glass of Chardonnay afterwards."
As for teaming up with Leo again in Revolutionary Road, which is directed by her husband Sam Mendes, Kate tells Vanity Fair it was only a matter of time.
"Leo and I were always aware that if we were going to do something together again that there would be a sense of expectation," she tells the mag. "It was going to have to be the right thing... Leo and I, you know, are sort of kindred spirits — we're cut from the same cloth. Both of us just got lucky [at a young age], started working and kind of learned on the job. We're sort of self-educated actors in a way, and we've just been lucky to work with unbelievable directors and actors who have taught us so much. I mean, it's been spectacular."

Im more of a rent a movie kind of person. But I am excited to watch them together again. They had such amazing chemistry on Titanic it as so believable! Hopefully they didnt lose that spark and they can pull it off again
