Lance Armstrong Blames Sheryl Crow's Biological Clock for Split
Although his fourth child is due next month, Lance Armstrong says the reason he ended his engagement to Sheryl Crow is because the singer wanted kids and he didn't.
In the upcoming book Lance — due out in July — the cycling superstar tells author John Wilcockson that after he and Sheryl became engaged in 2005, their relationship became "a struggle" because of the tick tock of her biological clock.
"She wanted marriage, she wanted children; and not that I didn't want that, but I didn't want that at that time because I had just gotten out of a marriage [to Kristin Armstrong], I'd just had kids [Luke, Grace and Bella]," Lance, 37, says. "Yet we're up against her biological clock — that pressure is what cracked it."
Despite saying he didn't want marriage at that time, Lance happily appeared on Oprah chatting about his romantic proposal to Sheryl — then 43 — in the middle of a lake in the mountains.
In the book, Lance goes on to say that he and Sheryl sought help from a counselor, but were incompatible on the issue, so they split. However, he chalks things up to bad timing: "I felt like I wasn't ready... I would have been in the future, but not then."
Fast-forward to May 2007, when Sheryl became a single mom and adopted a two-week-old son she named Wyatt.
As for Lance, he's expecting a child in June with his girlfriend Anna Hansen. The child was conceived naturally despite being told that chemotherapy left him unable to have more children.
