Laura Leighton Cast in New Melrose
The first Melrose Place veteran has been cast in the CW's new Melrose Place series, and the actress going back to work is... Laura Leighton.
Laura, who played nutty schemer Sydney Andrews, will be on the show in a recurring role. Although her character was presumed dead at the end of season five, she apparently survived being mowed down by a car and will be back playing the landlord to the new crop of tenants.
Already cast in the series are Ashlee Simpson, Katie Cassidy and Jessica Lucas.
Laura's two-episode stint on the original Melrose was a big win for her. It was her first acting gig and led to a job on the series for four years. It's also where she met her husband Doug Savant, who was Matt Fielding on the series and now appears on Desperate Housewives. They have two children.

I still watch my dvds of melrose place. I love the series so much, and it has been a long time since it began. Yes I do hope to see a few of the old cast in this new Melrose

I got to say I just found this story by chance and I was a Melrose FREAK! I mean I wore black when Sydney died, but I agree she's has big shoes to fill. I doubt Amanda will come back, didn't Michael help cover up her and Peter's death by explosion? And what about Jane? And didn't Taylor run off into the sunset with her and Michael's baby? Jennifer ran off with Billy right? and Megan married Michael? I know I can Google all this but after 12 years I still remember the craziness!

I'm really excited that Laura will be back, now it also has been confirmed that Thomas Calabro will return as well. I can't wait and I do hope that other characters will at least make a special apperance.....
