Is Miley Losing Her Voice?
Has Miley Cyrus pushed herself too far, too fast? The teen sensation's multimillion-dollar singing voice could be at risk after she developed a vocal cord nodule, a source tells Star.
"Her concerned parents took her to the doctor, who diagnosed the beginning stages of a nodule," says the source. The small, bump-like mound of tissue, also called a node, is caused by continual straining of the voice and can lead to surgery if left untreated."
Miley's condition at age 15 may not be so surprising, given her recent workload. Her Best of Both Worlds Tour, which started in October 2007, was extended an extra 14 shows, for a total of 70 dates, through January 2008. She's also made many promotional appearances and has performed at special events since then.
Fortunately, her condition was diagnosed in its early stages. A rep for Miley denies it, but the source adds her doctor recommended three weeks of vocal rest, though she gamely insisted on performing briefly at the Sept. 5 Stand Up to Cancer and Sept. 14 Concert for Hope fund-raisers, and plans to go through with her Sept. 27 concert at Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino.
