Miss Conception

By Marshall Fine

Rating:

Who's in it: Heather Graham, Mia Kershner

What's it about: A single British woman must find someone to father her child when she discovers that her biological clock is about to run out.

Eggs-actly: Talk about bad timing. Just when Georgina (Graham) breaks up with her boyfriend (Tom Ellis), she discovers that she's a month away from infertility. So she's got one last chance to track down a likely man to get her pregnant if she ever wants a baby. That's this movie's first big problem: Who believes that gorgeous Heather Graham would have trouble finding volunteers for sperm-donor duty, particularly if you're making the donation the old-fashioned way? An even bigger problem: While Graham is a game and willing comic actress, she's got a script that suffers from severe joke deficiency. She gives it everything she has, mugging furiously and allowing herself to be filmed in a variety of embarrassing situations (and underwear). But the screenplay is shooting blanks from start to finish.

Long story short: This is a miscarriage of comedy.
