Oscar Winners & Highlights!

February 25, 2008

No Country for Old Men was named best picture at the 80th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 24. The film's star, Javier Bardem, also took home an award for best supporting actor. Meanwhile, There Will Be Blood's Daniel Day-Lewis won for best actor and La Vie en Rose's Marion Cotillard was named best actress. Tilda Swinton won the best supporting actress statue for her role in Michael Clayton.

Oscar host Jon Stewart kept the crowd laughing throughout the telecast, which lasted over three hours. Stewart gave out "The Baby" award to Angelina Jolie, who beat out other expectant actresses Nicole Kidman, Jessica Alba and nominee Cate Blanchett. Stewart joked that Jolie was not in attendance to accept her award because "it's hard to find 17 babysitters on Oscar night!"

Another highlight of the evening included exotic dancer-turned-writer Diablo Cody winning for best original screenplay for teenage pregnancy flick Juno. In her acceptance speech, Cody (who turned down the chance to wear a pair of million-dollar Stuart Weitzman heels to the event) thanked star Ellen Page and tearfully added, "most of all I want to thank my family for loving me exactly as I am."

The E! pre-show with Ryan Seacrest got a little tense when actor Gary Busey accosted Ryan during an interview with Jennifer Garner and nominee Laura Linney. "I've been looking for you for years," Busey shouted to Seacrest before grabbing Garner and planting a kiss on her neck. "I'm sweating... where's Ben," asked a stunned Garner.

Another uneasy moment for Seacrest came during his interview with pregnant Jessica Alba and her fiancé, Cash Warren. "Will you be breastfeeding?" Seacrest asked. "That's really personal," Alba responded, forcing a smile, before answering, "Yes, it's good for the baby."
