Married Mariah Takes Manhattan
A week after shocking the world with her surprise wedding, Mariah Carey stepped out on Thursday night with her new husband. Mariah and Nick Cannon, both sporting wedding rings, made their first public appearance as man and wife at Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World event Thursday night at Lincoln Center in New York City. Mariah sang at the event and the couple posed together in group photos. They also dined at "see and be seen" celebrity hotspot the Waverly Inn. As they exited the restaurant, Nick held an umbrella for his new bride, who was wearing her sunglasses at night. (Check out Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes doing that too.) One British newspaper today claims that Mariah originally planned a lavish wedding in Manhattan's St. Patrick's Cathedral, complete with doves, orchids and the lot. But it seems to be way off the mark. A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of New York tells Star that she "never heard that." Further, Mariah would have had to meet with the pastor of the church and submit a written request. From there it's at least three months until a wedding would take place -- though it could take year or more. Seeing as they've only been a couple for five weeks prior to getting hitched in the Bahamas, it sounds like the divorcee didn't have a shot in hell getting married in St. Pat's.
