PARIS' MYSPACE HACKED AS FRIENDS FUME
Whether she’s waiting to enter the hottest new club or deciding which “It” guy to date, Paris Hilton’s celebrity status usually makes her life a little bit easier. But like the rest of us, Hilton has learned that there is one issue that she cannot use her status to alleviate: email spam!
The heiress created a personal page on the popular networking site MySpace, but as of late, those on her friends list have been pestered by spam emails claiming to be from Hilton. The emails in question alert recipients that they have won an all-expenses paid trip to meet their online friend, but not before they are prompted to fill out a series of questionnaires and supply personal information.
To those who are willing to complete the survey requests, a confirmation message appears stating “Thank you for signing up for our offers, but all the prizes are gone. Your email is now on a spam list and you win nothing!” If information is not supplied, the user’s computer freezes.
While Hilton’s rep insists the socialite is in no way connected to the scam, her online friends feel differently. “The survey takes forever to fill out!” one of the scam victims tells MSNBC. “I sure hope Paris is treating her best-friend-again Nicole Richie better than her MySpace friends.”
