RACHAEL RAY: TV HOST AND...RESTAURATEUR?

October 24, 2006

Spunky Food TV host Rachael Ray has had quite a year this year. She’s published cookbooks, conquered daytime TV—with a little help from her friend, Oprah—and has now set her sights on something new: her own restaurant!

The foodie revealed her new venture to an audience at the American Magazine Conference in Phoenix recently, explaining that she’ll start flipping burgers at an as-yet-unnamed burger joint in New York.

Ray says while she’d love to create a fast-food franchise later on, the flagship location will start by featuring 190 of her favorite burger recipes.

"We'll rotate them,” she says, of the recipes. “Tuna burgers, swordfish burgers, turkey burgers. I like anything you can pick up with your hands — portable food.”

While she’s not dreaming up new restaurant recipes, rest assured that Ray will be continue to create her brand identity. But don’t tell the 38-year-old she’s become a media mogul just yet. “I don’t feel very mogul-y," she tells People magazine, adding that her work schedule and speaking tour engagements will carry her through every day for the rest of the year, except for Christmas. “I'm home once every six weeks,” she says.
