Jericho Gets Second Chance!
Jericho fans who bombarded CBS offices with protests to reverse their verdict on the drama’s cancellation have won – for now. Executives for CBS have agreed to give the cult-favorite show a second chance and have ordered seven more episodes to air in the middle of the 2007-2008 calendar year!
"Wow! Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said in a letter to Jericho fans via The Associated Press. Though this seems like a victory, Tassler warns that the show may have a short run if the show's boosters don’t help accumulate more viewers.
"You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard," Tassler wrote, regarding the ample calls, messages and shipments of nuts signifying viewer displeasure with the show's cancellation a month ago. "In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more Jericho, we will need more viewers."
CBS is also doing their part to generate more interest in the show, launching a campaign to reintroduce Jericho through reruns of the first season throughout the summer. CBS will launch streaming episodes and clips on their Web site and release the first season on DVD on September 25.
Though Networks rarely reverse their decision to give a show the boot, this isn’t the first time CBS has put their viewers interests before their own. The network had revived Cagney & Lacey in 1994, which execs had decided to cancer one year prior but reconsidered after being slammed by anger viewers. Once brought back, the show ran successfully for four years.
