Experts Weigh On Brit's Downward Spiral!
Many were left wondering what was the tipping point after a judge stripped Britney Spears of physical custody of her kids on Monday. Beverly Hills family law attorney Adam Sacks tells Star, "I know Judge Gordon and he's a very fair judge. For him to have given Kevin Federline full custody of the kids until further notice, something extreme had to happen."
Sacks says, "It's very unusual for a judge to order this. He didn't even give Britney visitation rights. I think Judge Gordon basically was sick and tired of her bullshit. He basically said, if you are not going to cooperate with my orders then I'm going to hand over custody to Federline."
Brit reportedly brought her sons to meet Federline's rep at a designated meeting point Monday afternoon, two days before she was mandated to give them up. But even if Britney did surrender her kids early, does she get brownie points? "It doesn't mean anything if you hand them in early," says Sacks. "The judge said you have to give the kids up by Wednesday, but Wednesday is sort of the deadline."
With Kevin's alimony payments set to expire in November, many wonder if he is motivated by money to care for the kids. "Federline can get child support from Britney if he gets full custody," Sacks explains. "But Kevin could say that he can't work now because he has to take care of the kids, and then ask for alimony to be continued. But primarily, if he gets full custody, and she doesn't get to see the kids at all, Britney will still have to pay child support to Kevin."
EMOTIONAL DISTRESS
The prognosis is Spears needs help and lots of it, according to two experts who not treating the singer. The problem they say, Spears refuses to admit she's in trouble and to get better the first step is owning up to your problems.
Dr. Jenn Berman, a Los Angeles based marriage, child and family therapist and author of the book, The A to Z Guide To Raising Happy, Confident Kids tells Star, "When you are caught in an addictive cycle like what we are seeing here, you are in a destructive world so you don't think clearly. It seems because Britney's feelings are buried she avoids emotions and the truth."
Dr. Tara Fields (PhD), a California based marriage and family therapist who appears on the My Network TV show Decision House, thinks the reason the pop princess went shopping and avoided going to her home is because she can't handle pain. "She chooses to avoid it by either going out like this or she allegedly turns to drinking and doing drugs." Although there has been no mention so far about plans to check into a facility to squash her demons, both women agree Britney must get herself professional help if she wants to get her kids back — and save her own life.
Fields adds, "My predictions and fears: Things are going to get worse if she doesn't get herself behind safe walls. If she doesn't get into a treatment recovery program, this could be the beginning of a tragic end."
