Hayden Panettiere Tries To Save Dolphins
Hayden Panettiere wishes she could have used her on-screen super powers to help save a group of dolphins from the wrath of some Japanese fisherman.
On Oct. 30, the actress temporarily left her posh lifestyle behind for the southwestern section of Japan to go on a very special mission. There she zipped up a wet suit and joined a group of anti-whaling protesters called The Sea Shepherd, who tried and stop a boatful of hunters from killing a school of dolphins.
In a video airing on Entertainment Tonight, the Heroes star is seen asking the fishers to leave the dolphins alone. They respond by using a long pole to push her and the others in the group away.
After all her attempts failed, a tearful Panettiere tells the cameraman, "This baby stuck its head out and kind of looked as us, and the thought that the baby is no longer with us is very difficult."
According to reports, about 14,000 dolphins are killed for food in Japan every year.
