Britney Runs Three Stop Signs! Poll: Is She Getting Special Treatment?
Oops, she did it again! Britney Spears just can't seem to obey traffic signs. The pop wreck was caught on camera running three stop signs on Saturday night as she left the Four Seasons Hotel. The latest road rebellion comes just two weeks after Spears drove through a red light with her two sons and a court monitor in her car. Not to mention she has run over the feet of paparazzi and an LAPD cop.
So what gives? How come Brit hasn't been stopped by the cops or issued a ticket? J. Michael Kelly, chairman of the California Family Law Institute in Santa Monica, Calif., confirms to Star, "Celebrities get off more so than the average person."
"If Britney does get ticketed," Kelly says, "She won't get jail time but she will accumulate points on her license and if she gets between five and nine points, she can have her license suspended for a minimum of one year."
Kelly also says Britney is not allowed to drive with her shades on at night, as she has been seen doing in photos. "You are not allowed to drive with sunglasses at night. It impairs your vision and that can result in a point on your license."
And how would Britney's driving affect her ongoing custody battle with her ex, Kevin Federline, over their young sons? Kelly says that if Spears were a regular citizen she "would have them taken away from her immediately. Not only is she being looked at differently because of her celebrity status, but I also think nobody wants to have their name tied to being the person who took Britney's kids away. Because the case is so high profile everyone is proceeding with caution since everything becomes front-page news."
Kelly adds, "Assuming she were a regular person, she would not be allowed to see her kids for at least 2 months. In that time she would be advised to try and get her act together."
