Kevin Federline has been granted sole legal custody and sole physical custody of his sons with Britney Spears, according to legal papers obtained by TMZ. Following the custody dispute standoff, which reportedly left Britney on a "5150 Hold" for 72 hours of mental evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, the judge ruled 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James will be staying with their dad. Spears had her visitation rights revoked until further notice. A new court date has been set for Jan. 14 to handle the matter.

San Diego-based family lawyer Jon Schweitzer tells Star, "Britney basically handed custody rights over to Kevin on a silver platter. She has done everything right to not have custody of her own children."

But could things be so bad that Britney is institutionalized against her will for more than three days? Santa Monica-based lawyer Michael Kelly tells Star, "In rare cases, the hospital can ask for an extended hold — possibly up to a month — to continue the round the clock evaluations and treatment. But Britney can't be forced to go to an institution because that goes against her constitutional rights."
