David Cook Wins on American Idol
In a showdown of Davids, David Cook bested David Archuleta for the American Idol title.
"I'm absolutely at a loss for words," the Missouri-native said Wednesday after the results were announced. "Thank you guys. This is amazing. Thank you."
A record number of votes were cast -- over 97.5 million! -- to determine the season seven winner. Cook won by 12 million votes.
Cook's win came as a shock to many because his Tuesday night performance was lacking. In fact, Idol judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell predicted Archuleta would beat Cook based on their final performances. On Wednesday's show, Cowell actually apologized to Cook for coming down on him harshly while delivering his critique the night before.
"I think I was verging on disrespectful with you and I don’t think you deserve that,” Cowell said.
It's been an eventful season of the popular reality show and Star broke several exclusive stories about the Idol hopefuls -- from Archuleta's painful family secret and Syesha Mercado's hard-knock life to Cook's inspirational friendship with a young leukemia patient and his own brother's battle with cancer.

I love David Archuleta, I could marry him but im happy David Cook won, he won because his fanbase is bigger than archies (if you look on youtube his performances hve alot more views) but it really was hard to tell who would win such an amazing season!

OMG! I was sooooo happy when he won I started jumping up and down and clapping like a crazy person. My mom wasn't too happy though. She wanted Archie to win and threw 2 pill bottles at the TV when Cookie won. (the bottles were my Topamax and Mucinex, she's not on drugs) She was sooo mad but I was jumping and super happy my favorite finally won. Last year my fav was runner up and hers won.

I like both the Davids but i think Archie should of won because he is younger and didn't have as much experience as david cook..But I was glad cookie won!

I voted 80 times and I was so HAPPY that David Cook won i started jumping up and down when his name was announced I have wanted him to win since i first heard him sing.... David Cook FOREVER.........
