Michelle Williams Steps Out at Cannes
Four months to the day after Heath Ledger's sudden death, his ex-fiancée Michelle Williams made her first red-carpet appearance Thursday at the Cannes Film Festival to promote her film Wendy and Lucy.
"It was visibly tough for her being back in front of all those cameras," an eyewitness told Star. "You could see there was a lot on her mind."
Nonetheless, Michelle, dressed in a lacy vintage Chanel dress, put on a smile and held onto her Wendy costar Catherine Keener for support.
"Michelle doesn't have a big role in the movie and didn't really need to be here in Cannes," said a source. "But she looked as if she had something to prove."
As Michelle walked up the red carpet, a large billboard bearing a picture of Heath as the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight, loomed in the distance. That image will only be more and more reproduced as we get closer to the release of the film and Michelle will have to deal with his face being everywhere in the ghoulish makeup.
Michelle, who never attended the festival previously, decided just days earlier to make the trip. Travelling without her daughter with Heath, Matilda, Michelle is expected to leave Cannes on Saturday after doing a second red carpet for the film Synecdoche, New York.
Michelle is currently working on the drama Shutter Island, which costars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo.

Michelle looks like someone who is hiding alot of pain and suffering behind a beautiful face and dress. Hopefully she has wonderful family and friends to talk to. She's beautiful and always will be.

What in the hell is it anybody's business how Michelle is dealing with Heath's death besides hers and the people she wants to know about it. As long as she is taking care of her own business she'll be all good. Believe me, if she wants people to know how she's doing she'll let you know. Amber....of course it would've been irresponsible to keep the child around him, but she should've thought of that before she had one with him in the first place!!! And the previous reader stated she keeps being referred to as an "ex" which is exactly what she is. She did not say Michelle calls herself that.
