Oprah: Passed Her Expiration Date? Weigh In!

Is it time for Oprah to get off the couch? After 24 years on the air, her ratings and popularity are in a freefall.

The media mogul is taking hits in every corner of her empire: Ratings for her TV show dropped nearly seven percent over the past three years, and her namesake magazine O has lost one out of ten readers. Worst of all, a recent Gallup poll found that more and more people just don't like her.

Why is America changing the channel? Television expert Phillip Swann tells Star that Oprah's endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama alienated viewers. Also, he says, "She's passed her expiration date."

But what do you think? Post your thoughts in the comments section below.

I ALWAYS LIKE TO SEE AND TO HEAR ANYONE THAT IS DIFFERENT TO MY ETHNIC GROUP - I AM HISPANIC/LATIN - SO THAT I CAN LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THEIR THOUGHTS AND WHY THEY ARE WITH US OR AGAINST US IN VARIOUS TOPICS.

Oprah has signed on to everything that is pantheistic, a religion that worships human ability. With her open evangelism of Obama and his religion of socialism, and before that the Eckart Tolle book and The Secret....., she has clearly slipped into worshipping her own understanding. Whatever she had once believed of the Christian faith, in the end, she has fallen for her own publicity, and believes that she is the manifestations of her own thoughts.
All I know is from the time she started representing the beliefs of having power par with God, I didn't feel like watching anymore.

I am not a fan.....she is full of herself. I don't understand the big deal about Oprah, she does not seem genuine. It's all about her.....

I have been an Oprah fan for 20 years, however, it has become evident that Oprah has lost her way and I have turned the channel. Us women love that Oprah is so "real". She also asked "real questions" and demanded "real responses". However, she has wondered out into left field with all of the spiritual nonsense she has been having on her show. She is trying to impose her own deceived perceptions unpon the world and that is dangerous! Oprah, wake up!! Please!! The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have nothing to do with The New Earth!!!

Oprah is does not care about the viewers, just herself. She has her air time to air what she wants now. She has become so powerful that it doesn't really matter to her to produce a show that appeals to the viewers. She just wants us to buy into her beliefs and of course keep the money rolling in for her. She allientated her Republican viewers by not welcoming the Republican canidates on her show which in the end is probably a blessing because she would probably be rude. I would not want to watch her show now it was getting boring anyway. Always the same old stuff year after year after year after year....She does give alot of stuff away. That is her way to buy your attention.
-- Oprah Obama

I completely agree. She has taken advantage of her fortune and fame and used it to manipulate her viewers with her own views on politics. By not welcoming Republican candidate John McCain she has essentially said to her Republican viewers "who cares what you want, this is my show" Well you can keep it. We don't need to watch your show! It is probably for the best that she did not have John McCain anyway, as she would probably be rude.

I think Oprah's moral code has also helped tumble her. She has left her Christian roots and audience behind, sadly. I admire her philanthropic endeavors, but as a role model for today's woman, she isn't.
