Jon & Kate Plus 8 Star's Shopping Secrets
The holidays are a busy time for most moms, but for Kate Gosselin, star of the TLC hit reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, it's business as usual. A master at managing chaos, Kate knows how to buy in bulk and feed a large crowd. "I'm a well trained shopper," the mother of twins (8-year-old Cara and Mady) and sextuplets (4-year-old Aaden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah, Leah and Collin) told Star at P&G's brandSAVER Live! event. Here she shares her holiday plans and tips for saving money.
What are your plans for Christmas?
"We're just going to continue our Christmas tradition of caroling. And we'll bake."
Are you working on songs for this year?
"I haven't started yet. But the kids are older now so they'll learn faster. Or we'll do the ones from last year!"
What gifts are the kids asking for?
"Well, we have 4-year-olds and I remember this from when Cara and Maddy were 4. They come running and say, 'Mommy, Mommy, I want this'... and I'll say, 'What is it? Where did you hear of that?' And they'll say, 'On TV!'"
What kind of TV do they watch?
"They're Disney kids. And to be honest, our show is their favorite thing. They ask to watch it all the time. It's interesting. It's like them watching their memories."
Would you have ever thought 10 years ago you would be a TV star?
"No, it's ridiculously funny. I just think of myself as a mom so it's funny when people get all worked up about seeing us. It's not what I thought I'd ever be doing."
Rumor has it you are looking to move. Has that happened yet?
We don't say, but we are planning to move at some point and it will be covered on the show. We've outgrown our house. But the show will go on.
Have you felt the economic crunch? "We all have, but I have always cut coupons. I've always looked at the sale fliers and I've always planned my meals ahead of time. You know, long before gas prices went up and they were saying 'group your errands,' we were already doing that out of necessity."
The kids are usually dressed alike. Do any of them prefer to dress differently?
"They don't mind either way. At home they open the drawers and dress themselves and you can imagine some of the outfits they come up with. And I don't fight them any more. I would have fought Maddy and Cara at that age. I did. I'd say, 'Go back upstairs and change, you're hurting my eyes.' But I don't fight them anymore.
Do the kids know that they're celebrities?
"They don't understand it. To them, it's their normal. They've been filming since they were 15-months-old and they don't know any different. And I've taught them — and at 4 they understand — that if people are taking pictures, and it bothers you, just say, 'No, thank you' and turn your back."
Do you enjoy doing the show?
The blessings are we get to work from home, we're there with them. We get to travel. There's so many experiences that we wouldn't otherwise have. I feel like it's making them so well-rounded.

is it true you're going to split the kids up half with jon and rest with you and why would you do that ? ithought that you loved them and rather have all of them with you and wouldn't hurt the kids from altogether then not if you're doing that thats stupid im not even not mother yet and i must no about parenting then you

kate is such a phoney. as a nurse she knew fertility treatments usually resulted in multiples. her own mother said she had always wanted twins as a kid (that should have been enough for a family with an unemployed dad). as much as I dislike her I admit the tummy tuck was a wonderful thing for her to be given, but why the teeth whitening, boob job, all the tanning, the sexy clothes, this all benefitted the kids HOW?

Kate and Jon both are putting their love of money before everything..even the kids.

I think this is all just crap you need to leave the Gosselin Family alone and let them deal with their issues in private! They are doing the best they can for their family and we don't need to worry about Jon and Kate's Marriage problems-we should just watch the show-to enjoy it and not to make something of it! I give full credit to Kate for being an awesome Mom and that's all we should really worry about-as long as the children are being treated how they should be, and that's all that matters! You guys have no right to be giving off stupid information that you know is sooooooooooooooooo wrong!

Kate is sickening with her phoney ways and she's raising the kids to be just as sarcastic as she is - get a job Kate - let Jon raise the kids so they have a chance.

I love the show,I think jon is a dick head..... he acts like his life is all there is pouting saying i never had time to have fun that pisses me off. I really respect kate she has always had to take the BULL BY THE HORNS because jon always stood back

Its Obvious that this SKANK Is All About Money.There is no way that I would pay for her autograph.And what could she have to talk about that would pay her 3,000 an hour for speaking engagements? This woman is the pits and I don't blame Jon for leaving her.
