Letterman Blackmailer Angry After Seeing Dave Kiss Gal Pal
The plot thickens in the David Letterman blackmail scandal.
Although it was initially said that the talk show host's affair with staffer Stephanie Birkitt took place before he married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March, several new reports state that Dave and his onetime assistant were seen kissing as recently as August — and the summer kiss is what angered alleged blackmailer Joe Halderman.
Just over one month ago, the 48 Hours employee — who was arrested for trying to extort $2 million from the Late Show king — reportedly saw his then-girlfriend, Stephanie, and the comedian passionately kissing in the driveway of the Norwalk, Conn., home that Halderman shared with her.
Halderman reportedly confronted Stephanie about what he saw, and they broke up soon after with Stephanie moving to a new apartment in Manhattan.
Stephanie is currently on a paid leave of absence, a spokesman at David's production company, Worldwide Pants, told The New York Times.
In the Oct. 19 issue of Star, we have an exclusive interview with the father of another one of the TV legend's secret lovers. "David Letterman is a predator," says the father of Holly Hester, now 40, a California-based TV writer and producer who has since come forward to reveal that she was "madly in love" with Dave during their year long romance in the early '90s.
