Puppy Love for Maksim Chmerkovskiy
The beat never stops for Maksim Chmerkovskiy. After wrapping up Dancing with the Stars, it was off to Broadway for a run in Burn the Floor through Jan. 10. Up next, he’s headed to Vegas to choreograph the Cirque du Soleil–style spectacular Le Rêve. Maks, 29, took a breather to tell Star about his plans for 2010 — and his new addition.
Q: Are you sad that Burn the Floor is ending?
It’s not sad; I’m very excited about my new projects. I’ve committed myself to Burn the Floor for longer than anything I’ve ever done because I love it and enjoy doing it so much. It’s an amazing show. The next 10 years they’re going on a world tour, and I’m really jealous.
Q: Are you going to take a vacation before heading to Las Vegas for Le Rêve?
No, I don’t vacation. I’ve been fortunate enough to set up everything in my life so when I go away to work, that’s pleasure.
Q: Any plans after that?
I’ll be going to Aspen for the X Games, to cheer on former Dancing contestant Louie Vito, my new best friend. And after that, I might go to South America for the Rainforest Foundation. I’m excited!
Q: And in the middle of all this, you’re raising a new puppy?
Yes, he’s a 13-week-old English bulldog, all white and so cute. I named him Sir Sleepalot Chmerkovskiy.
Q: Why? Is he lazy?
He’s not living up to his name! He’s very active, which is funny because the point of getting a bulldog was that he’d be chill. Nope! He’s become the mascot of Burn the Floor.
Q: How do you like being a “parent”?
I always thought it was funny how my dad was totally in love with his dog. But now I get it.
