Chaz Bono Has "Feeling of Rightness" with Gender Transition
One year after starting the process of gender transition, Chaz Bono says he has a "feeling of rightness."
In a new interview on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 last night, the child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono said it's been an "amazing journey" and "something that I've wanted to do for so long." Noting that for the first time in his life his physical body has started to match how he's felt inside his whole life.
Starting the hormone therapy was "like going through puberty as a 14-year-old," Chaz explained. "Your voice starts to deepen. You start to grow hair. You start to gain muscle mass."
Chaz, who says he shaves twice a week now (up from once last fall), also underwent what he called top surgery to remove his breasts.
"It's a fairly easy surgery, he said. "It's like a cosmetic surgery. They construct a male chest out of your female chest. And it was pretty easy actually as far as surgeries go. And really incredibly gratifying, something that has made a really huge difference in my life."
Chaz says he's "so much happier, more confident... My life just feels right now. And there was always some kind of disease within myself before that just doesn't exist anymore."
As for how his family is dealing with the change, Chaz says they've been "pretty good" — though he doesn't speak about his famous mother specifically.
"My family's been pretty supportive," he says. "Everybody kind of comes to different points of understanding at different times.... I've been talking about this for years, because this has been something I've been struggling with for years, so it wasn't really a surprise... And everybody's been pretty good. Pretty good."

Chas: The careful decision you have taken years to make was the right one, and God has helped you make that decision. Good luck to you, and you remain a wonderful gift to your family, friends and the world.
As for the asinine comments made by some ignorant people (yes you JOANN, Tina, Tracie, Southern States, FunkyMusic etc), sadly, there appears to be no remedy for you. The stupidity of such boors is evidenced by their inane use of capital letters, and tasteless references to the deceased in these comments. How wonderful that Chaz's girlfriend is comfortable with the decision. Don't understand it people? It doesn't affect you; you don't have to. However, it is most likely the girlfriend is bisexual as many people are to some extent. As for references to weight issues, the US is the most obese country in the world. I expect many of those writing in scathing comments are also in need of some kind of changes to improve their health. Why not focus on improving your own lives instead running down others? Oh yes,it is because this gives you a pitifully desperate ego boost to run down others rather than consider your own problems doesn't it?. -- Dave
All he has to do now, is lose weight.
