IS JESSICA REALLY DATING JOHN MAYER?
Despite reports that have emerged over the past 24 hours that Jessica Simpson is dating singer John Mayer, Star has learned that the relationship is not as steamy as reported — or steamy at all! According to a Simpson source, Jessica and John rekindled their friendship in June — they initially met at a Clive Davis party two years ago — at Double Seven nightclub in NYC, when the duo danced to her single "A Public Affair." OK, that's sexy...But, says a source, the pair has not seen each other since then — they have, however, been calling each other. Plus, claims a source, they have not been intimate yet.
So, does this really constitute dating? Well, it's interesting to note that Jessica has garnered all of this buzz — including her supposedly losing her voice — the week her album A Public Affair debuts, amidst luke-warm reviews...Plus, it's a convenient hook-up that generates buzz for both artists, both of whom are coincidentally — or not coincidentally — signed to music empire Sony BMG Entertainment (Jessica is with Sony BMG's Epic Records label, while John is with Sony BMG's Columbia Records label). And another behind-the-scenes shocker? John shares the same publicist as Nick Lachey, Jessica's ex-husband!
Hmmm...is this one of those old fashioned Hollywood romances...the kind that amounts to little more than a publicity stunt? Let's wait a few weeks to see.

Mayer posted an image of Public Enemy's "Don't Believe The Hype" music cover on the blog section of his official Columbia Records Web site (http://www.johnmayer.com/blog) Thursday at 10:33 a.m., accompanied with the headline "Really enjoying this song." Hmmm...what hype could John be referring to?
