WHY JESS IS A MESS!
It should have been a great night in London for the Simpson family! Earlier on Sept. 25, 22-year-old Ashlee Simpson opened on-stage as Roxie Hart in the hit musical Chicago — and now it was time to celebrate at Sound, the trendy bar, restaurant and nightclub. But that's when Jessica Simpson lost it, storming out of the party after only a half hour. "I don't want to be here," she complained. "Why won't people just leave me alone?" Afterward, the sisters' dad (and manager), Joe Simpson, tried to explain Jess' volatile behavior. "She's quite down at the moment," he said. "She's not comfortable talking to people, as she's quite depressed — and we're walking on eggshells!"
And it's true that Jessica has plenty of reasons to be depressed! That's because, unfortunately, nothing — from her love life to her career — is going the way she wants it to right now. Star examines the reasons why.
1. HER LOVE LIFE'S A WASTELAND!
Jessica, 26, is manless and lonely. Her most recent "romance" — with singer John Mayer, 28 — was exposed as a PR-driven sham, leaving her publicly humiliated.
2. SHE NEEDS A HIT!
"Jess is having terrible anxiety that her career is in free fall," says a source.
3. SHE DOESN'T LOOK HER BEST!
Whatever else about Jessica's performance in The Dukes of Hazzard, no one could deny that she looked great! But look at her now!
4. IS SHE LOSING HER FANS?
Critics made fun of Jessica when she co-starred with Nick Lachey on Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. But fans fell in love with her sweet, Lucille Ball-like ditziness. They loved her whole soap-opera marriage to Nick — and hated when she ended it!
5. IS DAD JOE PULLING HER DOWN?
More and more, says a source, "it's becoming obvious that in Jessica's personal and professional life, Joe isn't doing Jessica any favors, no matter how good his intentions."
Read all about it in this week's issue of Star — on newstands now!
