Nicole Richie's New Gig: Sitcom Star!

December 1, 2009 12:00 AM

Nicole Richie is heading back to television. The Simple Life alumna has signed a deal with ABC to star in and produce a half-hour sitcom.

"The comedy revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships," Nicole wrote on her web site. "She must deal with, and navigate, the many ideas of what a woman's role is: modern vs. traditional."

Nicole added, "Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman's role should be in this era. I've taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We're still in the very early stages and I can't wait to share more with you soon!"

The show doesn't have a title yet, but the pilot will be written by 30 Rock's Daisy Gardner, according to Variety. Ideally, the show will be on ABC's fall lineup in 2010.

I think you are very pretty and wish you well. When you did that other show with the stupid heiress, I knew you were better than what you appeared to be. I have newly found respect for you and wish you well. And you and your husband make a great couple.

I would watch for sure. I thought she was so funny on The Simple Life. She stole the show with her witty comments. I thought she would have had a show a long time ago. I wanna know when and where..

I think we're still woozy from all the bright lights/dazzling star wattage! But, it definitely looks like Kristin was channeling her old Laguna neighbor last night, etc.
