Oprah Just Says No to Sarah Palin

September 5, 2008

Oprah Winfrey will not be sharing her couch with Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin anytime soon.

After the Drudge Report ran a story saying Barack Obama supporter Lady O was considering having the Alaskan governor on her show, the talk show host quickly issued a statement shooting down the story.

"The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue," Oprah said in the statement released to TMZ.com. "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."

While Oprah has had Obama on her show (twice!), the last time was in 2006 — long before he announced his candidacy.

So, until at least Nov. 5, Oprah viewers will have to settle for watching Dr. Oz, Nate Berkus and Bob Greene.

Should Oprah have the candidates on her show — or leave politics out of her show completely? Knowing she supports Obama, does it impact your feelings one way or the other about the Presidential hopeful? Talk about it.

READERS COMMENTS:

Oprah is doing the right thing by not letting the candidates be on her show. Oprah may seem one-sided but she tries not to show it. Everyone is not perfect.
The coverage she did on Katrina in N. Orleans was not racist and one-sided. Whoever said that really needs a reality check.

I just think that because Oprah has so much influence on Americans that by voicing her opinions or showing her support is unfair because they will vote just because of her popularity and not because of their own choices or that they know anything about either candidate. She knows that this is just one way to get the votes for her choice and she knows they will vote just because of her influence. In a way it does not say much for Oprah because I would want my candidate to win because of what he can do for America and winning on his own merits and not sliding into office on her skirt tails or anyone else's. I guess anymore it doesn't matter how you get there, just that you do! I used to be an Oprah fan but I think she is using her influence unfairly. Even though I would like to say that people have their own minds and will do what they want to do anyway, we all know that most of the time our minds are made up and influenced by the people around us. I don't think any celebrity is going to stand behind McCain with the same popularity and even if someone could. I don't think that he would want them to. That's the point. He would want to win on his own merits!

It's funny how the Republicans called Kerry a flip-flopper and Palin has flip-flopped on earmarks, the bridge to nowhere and numerous other things. One of the things that many people find "OFFENSIVE" about the religious right" is their holier than thou attitude and that they think they are better than everyone who does not agree with them. When I watch "THE VIEW" all I see is Elizabeth Hasselbeck trying to shout the other women down if they do not agree with her. The other ladies usually remain calm except for that other loud mouth Rosie ODonnell, but she's gone. Why don't we give people a choice whether they want to be taught sex education in class, whether they want to be taught creationism or evolution, and a choice about "THEIR OWN REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. First think McCain said was it woulnd't get dirty now they are on the attack and the Democrats can't say lipstick, a pig wearing lipstick is still a pig, which I believe was uttered by both McCain and OBAMA B4 Palin was even aboard. Also now all of a sudden McCain is about Change when he's been around for over 30 years. I do agree that the press needs to forget about Palin's personal life but the Republicans need to cool the lies about Obama being a muslim because same old same "SCARE TACTICS". Where is the same sounds like Carl Rove from the Bush adminstration again. I was for Hillary and was just getting really close to consider mcCain until Palin, she is a disgrace to women who are true feminists. Doesn't care about womans reproducting choices and wants to be the boss. I'm feeling sorry for McCain because he is getting lost in her "CELEBRITY".

I know that it's been said before, but I have to say it too - I am really sick of the people in Hollywood thinking they know what's best for our country. I do not care which candidate any "Star" endorses as I like to think that people in this country can think for themselves. And, I am really sick of Oprah and stopped watching her due to her coverage of the Hurricane Katrina story. I am from, and have lived in New Orleans ALL my life and I thought her coverage was incredibly racist and one-sided.

What makes Oprah think Sarah wants to be on her show. Thinking awefully high of herself isn't she.

I think Oprah should have Sarah Palin on her show...There can be stipulations...no politics after all Palin is a strong intelligent woman, wife and working mother. Oprah, should applaud a woman with such strengths and allow her viewers to see Palin's politician side. I think Oprah is afraid she will ruffle some Obama feathers if she has Palin as a guest.
