Pirate Radio

Who's in it: Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans
What's it about: A British radio station broadcasts rock'n'roll in the 1960s from a ship anchored off the coast of England.
Rock on: Based on a true story, this comedy looks back at a time when rock music barely surfaced on British radio. The only place to hear it regularly was on pirate stations, broadcasting from the high seas. So the stuffy British government (led by a wonderfully funny Kenneth Branagh) tries to find a way to outlaw the pirate station. Meanwhile, on the ship, the DJs and staff all live on the boat, which makes for a lot of sexual shenanigans, on-air rivalry and good, old-fashioned partying. There's a great soundtrack of classic rock, along with plenty of colorful characters - from Ifans as the coolest of the DJs and Hoffman as the most passionate (and only American) to Branagh as the uptight, scheming government official who plots to make pirate radio illegal. From his tight suits to his little Hitler mustache, he's a hoot - and so is this whole movie.
