Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live

By Marshall Fine

Rating:

Saturday, Nov.28, 8PM, PBS

As the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates its 25th anniversary, "Late Show"'s Paul Shaffer hosts this collection of clips from various induction dinners over its history. The dinners, where new members give speeches and perform (often reunited for the first time in years), are known for their all-star jam sessions. But you couldn't prove it from most of these clips. The best is a massive gang jam playing "I Saw Her Standing There," with Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger trading lines on the same microphone. There's also a terrific version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the surviving Traveling Wilburys - with Prince stepping up to channel Jimi Hendrix in an amazing guitar solo. On the other hand, there's too much soft rock - did they really need three different Crosby Stills & Nash numbers?
