IS KATIE TRAPPED?
At first, Katie Holmes promised her parents that she wasn't going to Australia. After all, the Batman Begins star is seven and a half months pregnant — and exhausted from her nonstop schedule — so why would she want to endure a 28-hour round-trip flight that poses obvious health risks to her and her baby? Sure, her fiancé, Tom Cruise, was going to attend the memorial service for Kerry Packer, Australia's richest man (and the father of a close friend), but she didn't need to go.
But then rumors that she and Cruise had split up started making news, and Katie telephoned her parents, Kathy and Martin Holmes, in Toledo, Ohio, on Feb. 13, to tell them she was going after all. "Katie asked her mom not to tell Martin [about the trip]," says a source close to the family, "but Kathy insisted and passed the phone." His reaction was predictable. "He hit the roof!" reveals the insider. "He told Katie he thought she was endangering the baby's health, as well as her own."
DRAGGED DOWN UNDER?
Ignoring her father's warning, Katie flew to Sydney four days later with Tom on his private jet to attend the memorial for Packer — often called the Down Under Donald Trump. And once they arrived after the long flight, Katie didn't get much time for rest.
