What's it about: A group of residents in South Central L.A. battle a developer, who wants to plow under their massive community garden to build a warehouse.
Self-sufficient: It's neighbor against neighbor in this documentary about the struggle to grow your own food in the middle of the city. The garden was started after the Rodney King riots - but the urban farmers discover they have no rights to the land they've been working. And they've been sold out by their city councilwoman. It becomes a gripping David-and-Goliath story, in which celebrities take up the cause of the farmers, many of whom don't speak English, against the wealthy, connected developer. This Oscar-nominated film will have you choosing sides pretty quickly and rooting for the underdogs to prevail.
Long story short: It will make your blood boil.
