The Proposal
Rating:
Who's in it: Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds
What's it about: When her visa expires, Margaret (Bullock), a Canadian-born book editor, discovers that she'll be deported unless she marries Andrew (Reynolds), the assistant she has mistreated for the past three years.
Yes, boss: To convince an immigration official that their engagement is authentic, she even accompanies him for a weekend in his hometown – in Alaska! – for his grandmother's (Betty White) birthday. Bullock is a fish out of water but she eventually can see that Reynolds really is a catch. Bullock is disarmingly funny as a city gal who gets nervous around puppies or any other wild life.
Bullock and Reynolds have chemistry and Reynolds is an inventive actor who has not found a script as funny as he is. White is the real scene-stealer as the randy granny; most of the physical comedy, though predictable, still will make you giggle.
Long story short: It's not terrible – and it could have been.
