Who’s in it: Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jade Pinkett Smith, Eva Mendes
What’s it about: A Connecticut career woman seems to have it all – until she and her friends discover that her husband is having an affair.
Grrl power: Mary Haines (Ryan) is devastated when she finds out her Wall Street husband is cheating with “a spritzer girl” (Mendes) from the perfume counter at Saks Fifth Avenue. She turns to her friends (Bening, Smith, Debra Messing) but has to reinvent herself to find true happiness. Based on a 1939 film, this movie is cattier and funnier than the “Sex and the City” film, with big laughs and big heartbreak. – and an all-star cast that also includes Bette Midler and Candice Bergen in brief, funny roles. Talk about sisterhood: This movie, directed by Diane English (“Murphy Brown”), may talk a lot about men – but there isn’t a single one in the cast.
Long story short: It’s the perfect girls’ night out.
