Tom Calls His 2005 Scientology Rant "Arrogant"

December 15, 2008

Three years after Tom Cruise infamously told Matt Lauer he was "glib" while debating the merits of antidepressants and psychiatry, the two went head-to-head again on the Today show Monday morning. This time things were less intense — Matt and Tom playfully arm-wrestled and put an end to their war of words.

"I'm here to entertain people," Tom said, apologizing for his behavior in June of 2005. "I thought about it a lot. It's a subject matter that was important. After looking at it, I really thought, it's not what I had intended. In looking at myself, I came across arrogant. I absolutely could have handled that better."

Tom says he will continue to discuss his belief in Scientology but only when it's appropriate. "I think there's a time and place for it. [But] when people are tuning in to hear about my movie, that's what I'm here to talk about."

The Valkyrie star also told Matt that he'll let his wife Katie Holmes decide whether or not give daughter Suri, 2, a baby brother or sister. "I think that's a question for the women."

I want to know how Katie bought into the Scientology thing. She was Catholic wasn't she? Since Tom has pushed his beliefs, I have found myself not wanting to watch any of his movies anymore. Sorry.

It amazes me that I was once a fan of this douchebag. Nowadays I can't stand him.

He needs to accept Jesus as Savior. I do not support those who are anti-christ.
