Update: American Idol Suicide Tragedy

November 14, 2008

The family of American Idol contestant Paula Goodspeed, who apparently committed suicide outside Paula Abdul's home, blames the reality show for her death.

Charles McIntyre says his sister was crushed after Paula Abdul panned her performance at the Idol tryouts in 2005. He also said judge Simon Cowell was out of line to criticize his sister's braces.

Paula Goodspeed's niece tells the New York Daily News her aunt was not suicidal or a stalker. The niece says Goodspeed even told her that she and Abdul once had coffee together at a Starbucks.

"Not an ounce of truth to this," said Abdul's publicist. "Paula met her only at Idol."

Police add that there have been prior incidents involving Goodspeed on Abdul's street. "One was in January of this year and another in June," said Los Angeles Police Det. Robert Bub, but neither incident was serious enough to generate a formal report.

Residents in Abdul's neighborhood said they often saw Goodspeed parked on their street and her car had a photos of the former Lakers Girl inside. According to one news report, Abdul received flowers from Goodspeed as recently as last week with a note falsely signed from her on/off boyfriend J.T. Torregiani.

Goodspeed changed her name from Sandra to Paula 16 years ago, says her cousin. She headed to Hollywood from her home state of Maine five years ago to pursue a career in show business but had no success. According to her brother, Goodspeed was planning to give up her Hollywood dreams and return to Maine this week.

Not the show's fault, c'mon people! So sorry it happened and to the family my condolences for real, but how on earth can the show or anyone on the show be blamed, it's just so way off base.

look the contestants go out to try out not be mocked by judges and sometimes the judges can be harsh i not blamin anyone but still the judgs can to think bout wat dere sayin' it could hurt but if the contestant r going to try out they have to handle being rejected and deal wit it so really it's no one's fault for this girls death. i send my heart out to the family may they live on.

HELLO! Suicide means to kill yourself. SHE KILLED HERSELF. It wasn't Paula A's Fault it was the one who was lost. Had coffee with her at Starbucks? Likely story. Just some random freak with a famous gorgeous Paula Abdul. Sounds like a weird-O. I love Paula Abdul but changing your name? If someone I loved rejected me, I would be hurt. BUT I WOULDN'T KILL MYSELF. Must be a drama queen. WE LOVE YOU PAULA NEVER BLAME YOURSELF!

I have whatched idol from the beginning, Simon who I still adore, can be harsh and sometimes wrong but I believe his sarcasim makes the show... Along with talented singers, Paula is NOWAY to blame for this girls suicide. Paula out of all the judges is the most hummble. Though at times but very few does she ever give a harsh word. I have whatched her many times defend and praise contestants that are not idol potintial at all!!! WE LOVE YOU PAULA!!!!!
