Janelle Brown recently opened up about the tragic passing of her and ex-husband Kody Brown’s son Garrison.

On the Sunday, May 4, episode of Sister Wives, Janelle, 55, recounted the events leading up to the devastating moment she learned that Garrison took his life on March 5, 2024, at age 25.

“I was traveling back to Flagstaff and Garrison, and I had been texting all day long, texting, and [had] one conversation. This was not unusual because he and I talked probably three times a day,” the reality TV star shared in her confessional.

Janelle said she knew her son was “struggling” and that she would “always” answer his calls, explaining, “I think he needed the connection, and I know he was calling his brothers and stuff, too.”

In addition to Garrison, Janelle and Kody share sons Logan, 30, Hunter, 28, Gabriel, 23, and daughter Savannah, 20.

Janelle said Garrison was drinking alcohol the night of his death, so she sent two of her sons to check on him.

“I laid down in bed around 8:30 and he kinda stopped texting me. I knew he’d been drinking again. He would go through periods where he was really good, and then he just would have a binge, just as part of the cycle, I think,” the TLC star confessed. “So I called Logan and Hunter. I texted them. I said OK, because we’ve tag-teamed. I said, ‘Will you guys see if Garrison will respond to you?’ They said, ‘Mom, we’re on it. We’ll just kind of check on him and make sure he’s OK.'”

Janelle then revealed that Gabriel shared the heartbreaking news with her. She had tears in her eyes as she told the cameras, “So, I went to sleep, and Gabriel called me, and he’s like, ‘Mom, he’s gone.’ And I’m like, ‘What?'”

The TV personality shared that Garrison began to drink during the pandemic.

“He really struggled with alcohol. I don’t know what happened. He was never a drinking kid. He didn’t like it, didn’t like the taste of it. He started to drink during COVID,” she noted. “Something happened in this last year, and it really just got him.”

Janelle added that she “offered him all the love, all the support, all the help, all the resources.”

“I just don’t know what happened that night he did that because he’s had other nights like this where he would drink and then pass out, and he would go kind of radio silent, but he’d be back in the morning,” she remarked. “I don’t know. I don’t know what happened this time.”
