Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell Look Cozy at ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Premiere — While Ana de Armas Skips the Spotlight

Tom Cruise kept his arm around costar — and rumored old flame — Haley Atwell at the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning on May 18. At one point, the 62-year-old whispered into the 43-year-old London-born actress’ ear as the two shared a laugh.

“Tom and Hayley are close friends, there was zero drama whatsoever between them,” an insider tells Star.

Indeed, the Oscar nominee is even friends with Hayley’s fiancé, music producer Ned Kelly (the pair welcomed a child in 2024). “He’s sort of morphed into a brother-type figure,” says the insider. “Though Tom is still very much Hayley’s boss.”

Despite the costars being considered “just friends”, it was noticeable that Tom’s current squeeze, 37-year-old Cuban beauty Ana de Armas, skipped the film’s premiere.

“Tom didn’t want Ana there because he wants to promote the movie first and foremost,” explains the insider. “He’s well aware that having her by his side would have become the main storyline, and that would’ve been unfair to the project and all those whose hard work went into it.”

Tom will be helicoptering the Knives Out actress around again in no time, assures the insider. “He’ll be reuniting with her very soon and she may well turn up to one of the big premieres or follow-up events — but for now, it’s easier to promote the movie with Hayley and the rest of the cast and crew.”
