Jamie Lee Curtis wishes she had never gone under the knife.

The 66-year-old acclaimed actress sat down for a 60 Minutes interview, which aired Sunday, May 11, and recounted the experience that made her seek plastic surgery in the first place.

It all started when the Halloween star snagged a lead role in the 1985 romantic drama film Perfect, starring alongside John Travolta. While on set, one of the cinematographers made a comment critiquing her appearance.

“He’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy,'” she recalled. “And I was 25, so for him to say that was very embarrassing, so as soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery.”

The cosmetic procedure proved to be a major regret for the Oscar-winning actress, even more so as time passed.

“That’s just not what you want to do when you’re 25 or 26. And I regretted it and have kind of sort of regretted it since,” she confessed. “Way so now because I’ve become a really public advocate to say to women, ‘You’re gorgeous, and you’re perfect the way you are.’ It was not a good thing for me to do.”

Additionally, the surgery ended up kicking off a painkiller addiction, as the Freaky Friday actress told 60 Minutes, “I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate.”

The two-time Golden Globe Award winner previously spoke to Variety about the situation.

“I had a routine plastic surgery because of a cameraman. I naturally had puffy eyes. If you see photographs of me as a child, I look like I haven’t slept,” she told the outlet in 2019. “I’ve just always been that person, and we were shooting a scene in a courtroom with that kind of high, nasty fluorescent light, and it came around to my coverage in the scene, and [the cameraman] said, ‘I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are too puffy.'”

After the surgery, Curtis explained, “They gave me Vicodin as a painkiller for something that wasn’t really painful.”

The scream queen openly sharing her story is now 26 years sober.
